Day 52 — What’s for Dinner?

A guy driving a Horizon Food truck drove by me as I was walking down the street. He yelled, “Are you hungry?” He drove another block more before he looked out the window and yelled again, “I’m Brent. Do you like steak?”

My eyes popped out like a diver who’s ascended too fast from deep water. I said, “Yeah.” With a saying like “What’s for Dinner?” painted on the side of his truck, I’m thinking, do you mean you? When he said, “I’ve got some lonely steaks in the back,” I knew I had to jaywalk across the street to learn more. When he lifted the lid off the frozen-food compartment and I saw boxes of vacuum-wrapped steaks and burgers, I was by then thinking, this is not free food.

I felt uneasy and thought of a graceful way to make a fast exit. I smiled. He proceeded with his spiel about how he could put a meal on my table for about $4 to $6 per serving. I’m not sure what the big box of steak costs in total because I had already bought hamburger for dinner and blew my wad of dough for the day.

I forgot to get a menu, and maybe that’s just as well.
